Lucas gantry robots make an excellent base for the creation of machining centres. With the different options available, such as backlash compensation with double pinions (electric or mechanical, see technical page), the addition of linear scales and their modular nature, the Lucas system is a real tool box for builders. The Lucas service is also there to help you with geometry checking (laser tracker, interferometer, etc.) and support for integrating the digital control system of your choice.
Application category: Machining, sanding, finishing Robot brand used: Lucas robot Notable options: Variable format, mechanism compatible with a lot of CNCs (Siemens, Fanuc, Fagor, Heidenhain, etc.) direct coding, backlash compensation. See Lucas Technologies
B. MACHINING WITH POLYARTICULATED ROBOT AND LUCAS AXES
Application categories: Machining, sanding, finishing Robot brands used: Lucas axes + polyarticulated robots Notable options: Direct coding, backlash compensation, bellows, etc.
Whichever your preferred articulated robot brand, we can make it move or make it move a part with precision. With the different options available, such as backlash compensation with double pinions (electric or mechanical, see technical page) the addition of linear scales and their modular nature, the Lucas system is a real tool box for builders.
Special axes are a never-before-seen combination of Lucas axes. We will always strive to meet your needs while respecting the technical limits of our basic modules. If you have any queries, please contact us.
3D printing is an innovative construction method that requires movement mechanisms that live up to its cutting-edge nature. Thanks to their precision, modularity and range of options available (backlash compensation, direct coding, splash protection, etc.), Lucas axes enable the integrator and the builder to create printing machines with dimensions that have never before been achieved.
Thanks to the modular nature of the range, Lucas modules can be used to create 4.0 factories and workshops. The Lucas Robotic System, or LRS, can be used to create flexible digital factories where the robots are always in the right place at the right time (with floor or high axes).
Application categories: Automotive/aeronautical production lines, general industrial lines… Robot brands used: Lucas axes + polyarticulated robots + Lucas robots Notable options: High precision, reconfigurability, LRS, etc.
A supply, control and supervision system for each carriage makes them ‘autonomous’ LRS supervises a volume of 1.5 km x 1.5 km x 200 m. Over a work or stock area, LRS can send out:
Procedures such as painting, plating and shot blasting require enclosed axes, and sometimes need them to comply with ATEX directives. These types of axis require complex, smart enclosures that can insulate sensitive elements from their surroundings.
Application categories: Surface treatment, painting, automotive production lines, aeronautical production lines, general industry, shot blasting, sand blasting. Robot brands used: ATEX Lucas axes + polyarticulated robots Notable options: ATEX axis, overspray protection.
Lucas can offer an axis–swing combination on a linear axis so that the polyarticulated robot can ‘follow’ the car body on the main conveyor and retract when the next vehicle is coming. It is particularly used to allow painting robots to be inserted inside the vehicle to be painted, bringing the robot’s base as close as possible. These axes can be surrounded by a ‘doghouse’ enclosure (blended in with the wall), which does not affect air flow in the booth. All Lucas kinematics can be used in ATEX 2G zones, especially in the case of ceiling mounted axes on pillars for painting the outside of vehicles.
All of these systems can also be adapted to shot blasting/sand blasting operations.
Welding enormous parts – often dozens of metres long – requires both dexterity and a large range. This is why our Hybrid Motion concept is the ideal candidate for creating welding cells.
Application category: Welding Robot brands used: Lucas axes + polyarticulated robots Notable options: Walkable floor decking, bellows, accessory carriage, robot mount, column and boom, extraction hood mount, etc.
Lucas axes can be used for arc welding activities, with a host of options from various protection elements (walkable surface, bellows, etc.) to the addition of a line follower to carry Marathon drums, welder generators and other accessories, such as extraction hoods. Compatibility with closed cable carriers. The use of gantry systems allows for the creation of large cells. The use of combined models makes infinite kinematics options possible. The precision of the axes makes for easy usage of offline programming, which requires the real model to be as faithful as possible to the theoretical model.
Lucas axes can be used on automotive welding lines. Their reconfigurability makes them able to fit in to any project. They can also carry robots (of all brands) and part assemblies. (Can constitute a network with the LRS system)
Application category: Palletisation/order preparation Robot brand used: LUCAS Notable options: Telescopic Z arm. Use of a pre-stacker/gripper for columns
How it works:
The load is moved under the stacker by a conveyor system.
A lift built in to the conveyor pushes the package into a ‘chimney’.
The package is kept in position by wedges on the sides.
The next package inserted by the lift pushes the previous one further into the chimney, as the wedges open mechanically.
And so on until the column is formed.
The robot then collects the full column.
Possible variants:
Variant 1: with low level infeed
Variant 2: with high level infeed
Applications:
Picking packages with large dimensions
Creation of columns of packages from the same order
Creation of pallets with several columns
Characteristics:
1 robot supervises 64 columns: so, 8 columns per pallet, 8 pallets being prepared at a time.
Tray 400 x 300 x H (variable)
Maximum weight per column 100 kg
Productivity: 1 400 packages/hour/robot
Important information:
The applications carried out with Lucas equipment are liberated from the issue of different package heights as the packages are palletised in columns (as opposed to flat layer palletisation).
This column palletisation allows for columns of boxes of different heights to be formed (container optimisation).
The columns made are positioned on the pallet by the gantry robot.
Palletisation and depalletisation are an important part of the chain of operations in an order preparation system. This function layers packages onto a pallet.
Creation of layers of packages from the same order
Simultaneous management of several preparation or production lines
Application category: Palletisation Robot brand used: LUCAS Notable options: Good speed and acceleration
When combined with a preparation table, it can manage multiple palletisation plans. LUCAS robots can control all kinds of grippers, whether standard or developed by integrators.
This Lucas robot is equipped with a unique Z arm that can pick up a column of packages in its ‘trunk’. As each tray is picked individually, partial placement is possible.
The aeronautical sector is becoming automated in a rapid yet unique way. The modularity, flexibility and precision of LUCAS robot axes make them the ideal elements for creating innovative cells for the manufacturing or checking of aeroplane parts.
Application category: Aeronautical production line Robot brands used: Lucas axes + polyarticulated robots + Lucas robots Notable options: High precision, reconfigurability, LRS
As Lucas axes can be both large and precise, they are ideal for the aeronautical industry. Lucas systems are therefore especially used for moving riveting/assembly tools or parts. They can move robots carrying process heads or parts in front of robots carrying process heads. Lucas axes are also suitable for making configurable templates, for ‘holding’ aeronautical parts and for positioning them in the space to reference them for different processes.
Machine loading and unloading calls for rigid axes with high speeds and acceleration. The Lucas series of two-axis robots offer unrivalled performance for these applications.
Application category: Loading Robot brand used: Lucas axis + polyarticulated robots Notable options: Storage management and loading
Lucas axes can be used to create centralised tool magazines for one or several machines. Thanks to the modular nature of Lucas axes, you can make your project a reality regardless of the machines you aim to serve and of your preferred robot brand.
Application category: Loading Robot brand used: LUCAS axis + polyarticulated robots + Lucas robots Notable options: Adaptability
Lucas axes are ideal for loading and unloading pieces on machine tools, whether they carry polyarticulated robots or your grippers directly on Lucas gantry robots. The 2-axis gantry robots are particularly suitable for serving entire lines of machines, especially if they are equipped with an opening at the top. Axes on pillars (ALIS, ALES, etc.) also allow for loading via the top, but also via the traditional accesses on machine tools. For more compact machines and cells, our axes can also be used on the floor.
Lucas provides robots and axes for integrators and builders who want to automate their injection moulding machines. The high speeds achieved by Lucas axes are ideal for the demanding injection moulding sector. (Lucas does not take care of the integration of its axes/robots into the injection moulding machines)
Application category: Loading/unloading injection moulding machines. Robot brands used: Lucas axes + polyarticulated robot Notable options: special base to be attached to injection moulding machine.
Lucas axes are ideal for building stacker crane-type systems that are quick, precise and reconfigurable. They therefore make the perfect base for integrators and builders to create automated table loader systems for machine tools. They are generally made up of standard floor axes combined with an axis in lift position. If considerable heights are involved, an upper guide is added to remedy tilting torque.
Application category: Logistics, table loading/unloading for machine tools. Robot brands used: Lucas axes Notable options: Great heights can be reached thanks to the torque compensation system to be adapted to the client’s shelves. The integrator’s forks/tools can be controlled thanks to the auxiliary axes of the Lucas Control system.
Lucas can provide the control cabinet with extra auxiliary axes to supply your grippers and other telescopic forks.
